Cookies and browser storage

What Umbrello stores

Umbrello uses a small amount of browser storage to make the check-up and guide checklists work. None of it is sent to us, and none of it tracks you across other websites. Items are listed below as we currently understand them:

umbrello_checkup

Provider:
Umbrello (this website)
Purpose:
Remembers your check-up selections, answers and completed actions.
Type:
Session storage
Duration:
Until you close the browser tab. If you switch on “Save on this device” (off by default), it is stored in local storage instead and lasts until you clear it or clear your browser data.
Essential?
Only set when you use the check-up. Not a tracker; nothing is sent to us.

umbrello_guide_<guide name>

Provider:
Umbrello (this website)
Purpose:
Remembers which steps you've ticked off on a guide checklist.
Type:
Session storage
Duration:
Until you close the browser tab.
Essential?
Only set when you tick steps on a guide. Not a tracker; nothing is sent to us.

What we don't use

Umbrello doesn't use advertising cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it doesn't embed third-party content that would set its own storage. Because only this feature storage and hosting are involved, there's no cookie consent banner to accept or reject. If that ever changes, we'll add clear choices before any optional tracking loads.

Hosting

Umbrello is hosted by a third-party platform. Like nearly all websites, the hosting platform may set strictly necessary cookies or technical storage needed to deliver and secure the service, such as protecting against abuse. The exact names and retention periods for those items aren't published in a form we can verify, so we can't list them here. We've flagged this as unconfirmed rather than guessing.

Clearing your saved information

The check-up page has a "Clear all saved answers and progress" control. It removes every saved item Umbrello created in this browser, including guide checklist ticks. It doesn't remove cookies or storage the hosting platform may have set — for those, use your browser's site-data settings for this website.
